Benzoyl Peroxide is the key ingredient of many over-the-counter products and is proven to be really efficient for individuals who suffer from mild, non-inflammatory acne. Using benzoyl peroxide is said to be secure for people of all ages, including children. It can be used in combination with further acne treatments, such as creams, masks, cleansers, antibiotics etc.

How Benzoyl Peroxide works

It works by killing the acne causing P.acnes bacteria in the skin. It acts as an antiseptic and oxidizing agent, reducing the quantity of comedones, or blocked pores. It may be 2-3 weeks before you start to discover improvements.

NOTE: While benzoyl peroxide kills present P acnes, it does not increase your body’s natural resistance to bacteria. So even when your breakouts begin to vanish, you should continue treating acne-prone areas. You want to know the reason? This course of acne treatment kills bacteria, but it does not impact sebum creation or the rate at which you shed your dead skin cells. If you quit using it, the bacteria — and your acne — will return.
